"This video series has really helped me see how to have a workable mixing strategy. I especially appreciate the value of hoe much time you spent on EQ and compression in this seres. I liked the simple and straight forward manner it was presented. "

"I have been binge watching your tutorials everyday over the past month and I must say that your lessons are invaluable!! They’ve helped me personally grow so much and my ears can hear a whole lot more than they used to be able to. There’s so many more things I’m noticing now after taking in your knowledge."

"All your video series are amazing bargains. I’ve already watched the entire series and I am starting to use your principals in my new mixes and it’s a huge help. Your videos are really easy to follow and you explain the necessary theoretical stuff in a way that a beginner can understand. I have been mixing my bands new music and your videos have been so valuable to use. I highly recommend your mixing video to anyone who is looking to vastly improve their mixing skills."

"Pete, you have (literally and single handedly) revolutionized my take on mixing! I cannot thank you enough. The way you teach just makes sense. I’m embarrassed to say that I haven’t found you or your information sooner."

"If you have found it a struggle to learn mixing technique, here is a seres of videos that are unlike any others. You watch the screen of a pro as he mixes a song form start to finish in real-time. I have learned so many tips that I have not seen anywhere else. I highly recommend David’s videos."

"I watched 3 of your videos last night until I fell asleep! These are the best mixing tutorials I have ever seen at any price. So much details and information here that I know it’s going to absolutely improve my mixing skills. The way you explain different concepts, it’s so refreshing to not have an instructor talk over my head. Everything is explained in an easy way and you don’t hold anything back. David, I am a big fan of yours and I will buy anything you put out in the future. Thanks again for helping me."

"What makes your content stick out the most is that in addition to knowing your stuff and delivering it “as if you expect it to be understandable and learnable”, you also are completely relaxed and being yourself. Too many guys want to seem impressive, important, and special. Your enthusiasm is what comes across first and foremost."

""I think your mixing series are great because you get directly to the point in every video. You explain things in a very clear way and as a beginner I found it very east to follow along and to understand. Your approach to using compression is the best I have seen anywhere online, and I have seen many other training products. You have a very good teaching style and even a beginner does not feel intimidated.""

"I’m happy to say that I’m a huge fan of what you are doing. Its wonderful to watch your tutorials. You are steeped in unselfish devotion to your craft and to your fellow artists. Thank you so much for sharing your extensive wisdom with us and for doing it in such a refreshing way. I’m thrilled to be following your work."

"You have been a great source of help and inspiration for me. Although I’m still near the bottom of a very steep learning curve, I just wanted to say thanks for putting your skills and experience out there for people like me to learn from. You’re providing an invaluable service to us newbies, and should be proud of all you’ve achieved. If I wasn’t several thousand miles away I’d shake you by the hand and give you a big man hug! :-)"

"After almost 54 years of music and serious home recording, I’ve got an opinion as well as my own preferences. There’s lots of folks trying to create recording and mixing sites like yours, but you are definitely in the top of that pile. You teach and share your enthusiasm for it all so you come across with sincerity, integrity, knowledge, skill and passion. That makes your content a treat, a pleasure, and an educational success."

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, you can download the videos to keep forever in addition to being able to stream them on your computer or mobile device.

No. It is the member’s responsibility to download the monthly content in a timely fashion if they wish to keep it. The monthly content stays up for 2 months. For example, if you sign up in April, April’s content will be available for April and May. May will be available for May and June… so on and so forth.

You can download the content as many times as you like while it is up and available. We recommend downloading the content and keeping it in a safe, designated place (like a desktop folder or external hard drive) for further watching, study, and reference.

Absolutely NOT! Pete and Dave teach universal mixing concepts that are applicable to ANY DAW on the market. Just because you may see them using Studio One or Pro Tools, that in no way is a prerequisite for learning and getting the most as a member of Learning To Mix.

Pete and Dave both mix 100% in the box with plugins and do not use any outboard gear like hardware compressors, EQ’s, effects, and so on.

NEVER! Pete and Dave do use a variety of plugins (including ones from 3rd party manufacturers), but what’s most important is the concepts and philosophies as to WHY they’re using them. So for example if they are using a compressor, what’s important and universally applicable is WHY they are choosing to compress something in the audio… Not what company makes the compressor or how much it costs. Pete has a saying that applies directly to this: “It’s always the wizard, never the wand.” As long as you have a stock eq, compressor, reverb, and delay, you have everything you need to learn and benefit from being a member of Learning To Mix. As part of your membership, Pete and Dave give you a list of their favorite free plugins available as well as links where you can go download them!

YES you do! The primary focus of Learning To Mix is YOU, the student/member. Pete and Dave have built Learning To Mix to be a mixing community FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE. They often refer to it as “blue collar mixing” because everything they do is with YOU in mind. There’s no arrogant, posh, stuck up gate keepers here. What makes Learning To Mix so different and special from other mixing membership sites is that as a member you get to submit your own sessions for Pete and Dave (and the rest of the LTM community) to mix for the month. Once a few have been selected, you will be able to listen to the songs and vote on which one you’d like to mix.

Simply email us ([email protected]) an MP3 of your mix of the song you’d like to be considered. It can be rough and does not need to be mixed at all really. We’re not picking songs based on your mix, but rather the song itself and the quality of the recording. You can submit a song at anytime and we will let you know if your song has been chosen to be featured for a month’s mix!

That’s easy! Just send us an MP3 or WAV file of your best mix (a WAV would be better due to the hi-res quality of audio) to [email protected] by no later than the 30th of each month. The winners will be announced and contacted by the 15th of the following month.

Yes! Just go to the Live Stream page and you will find the videos of the broadcasts.

Simply send us an email to [email protected] and we will respond to you within 48 hours doing our utmost to take good care of you. :-)

We would really hate to see you leave LTM, but we understand that things happen for a variety of reasons. Send us an email to [email protected] and we will take care of your wishes as soon as possible.

Meet Your Mentors

David Vignola

I have been a professional audio mixing engineer for over 15 years. During that time I have been mixing and mastering music for hundreds of artists all over the world, helping them bring their art to the world. My training has taken me all over the country, working in many analog/digital hybrid studios. I have also studied under well known mixing engineer Michael White who has worked with artists Including The Rolling Stones, Whitney Houston, Kiss and the Talking Heads, just to name a few.

Over the last 5 years it has become important to me to start giving back by helping musicians and engineers learn the craft of audio engineering. I found that teaching was something I really enjoyed and have a passion for, leading me to create Home Recording Made Easy.com and now Learning To Mix.com. My main focus is on the beginner/intermediate recording musician and aspiring audio engineer. Helping students improve their recording/engineering skills is something that gives me great pleasure and satisfaction.

I look forward to working with all of you in the very near future here. Together we will bring your music productions to the next level!

Pete Woj

Hello, Audio Fam! My name is Pete Woj. I’m a lifelong musician, multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter who’s been working in Audio Engineering for the past 15 years. I’ve studied all types of music at the highest levels (Berklee College of Music, Rollins College, University of Vermont, etc.) and enjoy applying what I’ve learned in the classroom to real world situations. My areas of expertise are focused in (but not limited to) Mixing, Mastering, and Recording in Home and Project Studio environments. I am also extremely active producing and writing music in multiple genres (Rock, Pop, Hip-Hop, etc). Although I often teach fellow professionals at the highest levels, I truly find joy in helping beginners who are new to the world of Audio. We are all eternal creatures of learning and I firmly believe in striving to learn more everyday. I’m probably most known for my teachings on my Blog and YouTube Channel, Mix Better Now (www.MixBetterNow.com), where I help teach thousands of students how to Mix, Master and Record music. I look forward to working with you here at Learning To Mix and earning your trust as a teacher, mentor and friend!
